Artist Robert Raikes Dark Wood AA Black HITTY Type Doll in Star Dress 2002-on

Dark Wood Hitty-type is approximately a 6 1/2 wooden character doll that is jointed at her neck, shoulders and thighs by elastic cord. She is made of wood with a sweetly painted face, black hair, and black shoes. She was designed by Robert Raikes and made in China circa 2002-on. I believe that Dark Wood Hitty-type may be a later Hitty styled doll as she is unmarked with painted stockings.

Hitty-type is wearing a lovely navy blue cotton dress printed with stars, a coordinating cotton bonnet detailed with flags and stars on its interior, and petticoat. Her pin may be an addition from her original owner. Her outfit sustains light discoloration and dust from age and storage, and may need laundering. Robert Raikes' Dark Wood Hitty-type remains a lovely example of the ever popular Hitty doll inspired by Rachel Field's book. Online research shows that Dark Wood Hitty has also been called Magnolia and Annabelle.
