73 Antique mystery black boudoir or half doll. French cut head. Fabulous

Very hard to find, especially in this condition. Long, slender neck with slightly tilted French cut head.

She has a serene facial expression; beautifully painted with stunning black/olive coloring; open-closed mouth with tiny painted teeth; and black mohair wig which looks original. Her features are Middle eastern (like Ethiopia or Morocco). She could also be Spanish. Her eyes resemble dolls made in the 1920s by Goebel, Galuba Hoffman, Lilli Baitz during the Art Deco period. She is mounted on a custom-made wooden stand. I was told she was made of porcelain, but I personally do not know how one can tell the difference between porcelain and bisque. Pictures do not do her justice. Research did not provide any help. So, if anyone has additional information, please let me know. See details and condition below. And be sure to add me to your favorite's list. She was told the doll is French and made of porcelain. This type of doll is often called boudoir or half doll and were often used as a lamp base with a wire cage underneath their full skirt. Some are listed as composition or bisque, others as chalk or wax dolls.

She is fired, but I have no idea if she is porcelain, bisque, or something else. The inside of her head is white and feels a little rough.

Tiny paint chips on tips of 2 fingers on right hand, tiny rub on tip of nose, and tops of arms at shoulder look a little rough, but paint matches so probably factory flaws. All look much worse in magnified pictures than in person. I know very little about these types of dolls, but I don't think there is any repaint, serious damage or repair.

If there is, it is extremely well done. Be sure to look at all the photos since they are part of the description.

Breakable items will be carefully packed. I will do my best to answer questions. From non-smoking, animal free home. Beautifully dressed for a ball. French lace bodice looks original to doll. Her skirt is newly made from antique cream colored lace with antique grosgrain waist band and lovely back detail. Half-slip made of fine antique cotton, trimmed with a tuck and vintage cotton lace. Completing the outfit is a red flower in her hair, a necklace of antique beads. Her purse and fur stole seen in last picture may also be antique. If you need additional information or pictures, please let me know.

Her head is in a graceful pose, molded in a slightly turned and tilted position. Beautiful open closed red mouth in slight smile showing 7 lovely white molded teeth. Slender nose with red dotted nostrils. Fabulous shiny black eyes give a glass eye appearance glazed? Black lid lines, eye shadow, red inner eye dots, and single-stroke black brows.

Her proportioned figure has molded breasts and small 6 ½ waist. Her long, slender bisque arms are joined at the shoulder with stringing elastic and hold a pose. She has exquisite hand and finger details... Beautifully modeled (no red cuticle outlines).

Looks like her original black. I think her wig is a shank of mohair wound around her pate. Hair pins are used in the styling. About 16 1/2" including base (without base, 5 ½"). She attaches to the wooden frame with a round wooden piece (which also lengthens her torso).

Wire is used to anchor her. The item "73 Antique mystery black boudoir or half doll. Fabulous" is in sale since Thursday, December 3, 2020. This item is in the category "Dolls & Bears\Dolls\Antique (Pre-1930)\Other Antique Dolls".
