It is time to let go of my very own Julia (Diahann Carroll) Barbie doll, stamped 1966 Mattel Japan on her bum, and 1968 on her original nurses dress. Julia was the only one of my vintage fashion dolls that was really a "Barbie" by Mattel. She features bendable legs and Twist and Turn waist. Her Panties (original to her, I believe) are stretched out at the waist and resemble what my grown kids would call "grannie panties" of today.

Her dress has all of the buttons, snaps, cuff seed bead "buttons" and her silvertone badge. I did notice that her dress seems short and it is possible that I folded it up and re-hemmed it as mini skirts became fashionable. Her Nurses Cap and Shoes are also original. As I was taking photos I noticed that Julia could use a little cleaning, and her Nursing Dress, Panties, and Cap could also use a gentle laundering. I will leave that up to you. I know that I loved the 1968 - 1971 Julia TV show because it portrayed a strong single woman who had a career, and was not "just" a housewife or "just" a Mother. She could do it all. (I went on to become an Industrial Engineer with an MBA, now happily retired). I will be listing other "real" vintage Barbie clothing and fashion booklets later in the next week or so.
