17 Black Baby Doll Antique Vintage Composition Artist TUTU Inspired by Leo Moss

I created this precious baby girl named Zola by sculpting her head and hair with papier mache, giving her a gracefully aged antique look. She is a beautiful baby with amber brown antique glass eyes, luminious dark complexion, pouty down-turned mouth, tight afro sculpted hair adorned with a lace ribbon and flower and 2 tiny tears beginning to fall. Zola comes with a wardrobe consisting of: a summer day dress, a onesie slip/panty combo, and vintage baby booties. She is 17 tall and made with a rescued antique/vintage composition and cloth doll.... Giving it love, new life and saving the planet one doll at at time.

My story and how my journey with Leo began.. Since the onset of the pandemic, I began my journey with papier mache and the art of Leo Moss. I fell in love with his poignant story and his dolls. They are truly works of art and it is a great honor in owning several of them.

I call this a gift of first-hand knowledge and as close as it gets to Leo Moss and his techniques. Holding his dolls I get to experience how his dolls really look and feel, his sculpting and coloring techniques and their wonderful expressions. I have been an artist all of my life and when our country "locked-down" I had to find a creative outlet to keep myself occupied so I channeled the sadness and difficulties of an ongoing pandemic into creating dolls. We have all had to find our way through this difficult time.

Studying and learning from my Moss dolls, I used similar types of materials and techniques in sculpting Zola. From years of study, I have mastered the Moss technique of expression and coloring.

Look closely at the facial features, hair texture and depth of color. The Original Doll Artist Council of America (ODACA) and other individuals have said my art dolls bear a striking resemblance to Leo Moss originals. This girl has characteristics of an early Moss doll, made to look like a time worn antique doll, not new.

The story of my pandemic art dolls was recently published in 2 doll magazines. Check out Antique Doll Collector, Nov/Dec 2021 issue and Doll Advertiser, April 2022.

I wanted to share my story and preserve the history of my art dolls. It's important to connect with the artist and understand their raw emotions as they create their work. That's what makes it great. My dolls are a powerful testimony to right now, my marker moment in time.

Tears are a powerful healer, releasing stress, sadness, anxiety and joy. Our salty tears are cleansing like the ocean, lubricating our eyes, reducing stress hormones, and removing irritants.

Pent up emotions can cause illness, fatigue and pain. Crying can simulate the production of endorphins, our bodies natural painkiller. Tears heal the heart and help us process loss, so go ahead, hug your doll and release those tears.
