1900s AFRICAN AMERICAN BLACK RPPC POSTCARD MILLION DOLLAR PIER ATLANTIC CITY NJ
This vintage postcard features an African American woman standing in a studio on the boardwalk across the Million Dollar Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the early 1900s. The postcard is an original real photo (RPPC) and is a standard size of 5.5 x 3.5 inches. It is uncommon to come across African American souvenir studio photos from the pre-prohibition era of Atlantic City. She is lovely and dressed perfectly for a Sunday stroll. The postcard is unposted and in nice condition (a crease and slight soiling) perfect for collectors of vintage postcards. It was manufactured in 1907 and features a divided back. The postcard is a great addition to any collection and is perfect for anyone interested in the history of amusement parks in North America, specifically in Atlantic City. Applegate Pier, built in 1884 and located at the foot of Tennessee Avenue, was the first successful amusement pier built in Atlantic City.

It was multi-decked and 665 feet long. The Applegate pier was bought by John Young in 1891, and he named this pier the Ocean Pier. The Ocean Pier burned down in 1902. John Young, soon after built a bigger and better pier.

This was the Million Dollar Pier. See photos for more details.
