Volume VI, the annual yearbook of Charlton-Pollard High School in Beaumont, Texas. This is an especially interesting piece of early Texas African American educational history. Charlton-Pollard was Beaumont's historically Black high school during the segregation era, and this nearly century-old yearbook provides an extensive photographic and documentary record of its students, faculty, organizations, athletics and school life in 1925. The yearbook contains numerous individual and group photographs throughout.

Of particular interest are the football pages documenting the school's 1924 State Champions, with individual player photographs and biographical text. The pictured Rice Shock staff page identifies the student editors and staff members, while the January Class of 1925 page identifies Rufus Hector as class president along with the other class officers.

Bound in its original deep red cloth-covered boards with embossed and colored. Design and "1925" on the front.

Nineteen Twenty-five Volume VI The Yearly Publication of the Seniors of Charlton-Pollard High School, Beaumont, Texas. There are several handwritten names and locations on the inside rear area, including names that read Mr. Henry Myers, " "Clay Jones, " and "Mr. Charlie Mayfield, along with references to Brooklyn St. Beaumont, Texas and Oakland, California.

I have not attempted to determine the connection of these individuals to the original owner. Condition shows considerable age and use consistent with a 101-year-old school annual. The red cloth covers have rubbing, fading, discoloration and edge/corner wear. The spine shows substantial wear. Interior pages show scattered toning, foxing, spotting and occasional marks.

There is wear and deterioration at the inner binding/endpaper area as shown. Please examine all photographs carefully for the condition of the binding, covers and interior. A scarce surviving piece of 1920s Beaumont history with particularly strong interest for collectors of Texas history, African American history, Black education, genealogy, early Texas high school athletics and Beaumont/Jefferson County material. Please view photos as they are part of the description. If you have any specific instructions regarding special packing, please let me know before paying so that I may adjust invoice if necessary.
