27 Black Baby Doll Antique Vintage Composition Artist TUTU Inspired by Leo Moss

I created this precious baby girl named Nova. She is a stunning beauty made of a hand-pressed papier mache head, rich ebony complexion and hair, sculpted curly hair with 2 thick braids to the right side of her head, sculpted angled black brows, deep set antique brown glass eyes, broad rounded nose, closed mouth with full pouting down cast lips, and two molded tears falling onto her plump cheeks.

Made with a rescued antique/vintage composition and cloth doll.... Giving it love, new life and saving the planet one doll at at time. Her composition and cloth body is in very nice condition.

Nova comes dressed in a vintage white cotton slip dress, white undies and a silk ribbon for her hair. In second to last photo, Nova is modeling a child's Victorian dress, not included in the sale. My story and how my journey with Leo began..

Since the onset of the pandemic, I began my journey with papier mache and the art of Leo Moss. I fell in love with his poignant story and his dolls. They are truly works of art and it is a great honor in owning several of them. I call this a gift of first-hand knowledge and as close as it gets to Leo Moss and his techniques.

Holding his dolls I get to experience how his dolls really look and feel, his sculpting and coloring techniques and their wonderful expressions. When our country "locked-down" I had to find a creative outlet to keep myself occupied so I channeled the sadness and difficulties of an ongoing pandemic into creating dolls. I call my dolls Poignant Paper, because they are. Toilet paper was the hottest commodity when the C-19 Pandemic hit, I used mine to make dolls.

We have all had to find our way through this difficult time. Studying and learning from my Moss dolls, I used similar types of materials and techniques in sculpting Nova. I have been an artist all of my life, earning a cosmetology license in my 20's and with this experience I learned hair textures and coloring, which I believe has helped me greatly in creating my dolls. The Original Doll Artist Council of America (ODACA) and other individuals have said my art dolls bear a striking resemblance to Leo Moss originals.

The story of my pandemic art dolls was recently published in 2 doll magazines, Antique Doll Collector, Nov/Dec 2021 issue and Doll Advertiser, April 2022. I wanted to share my story, preserve the history of my art dolls and Leo Moss.

It's important to connect with the artist and understand their raw emotions as they create their work. That's what makes it great. My dolls are a powerful testimony to right now, a marker moment in time. Tears are a powerful healer, releasing stress, sadness, anxiety and joy. Our salty tears are cleansing like the ocean, lubricating our eyes, reducing stress hormones, and removing irritants.

Pent up emotions can cause illness, fatigue and pain. Crying can simulate the production of endorphins, our bodies natural painkiller.
