Falcon Beazer, movie reviews, etc. Black Forum was founded in the mid-1970s by Horace Lee Mungin, a poet, author, artist and activist known for his contributions to the Black Arts Movement and a decades-long literary career.
1 is primarily devoted to poetry, essays, a short story, book and movie reviews. Ademola Olugebefola, a visual artist, activist, designer, educator, and musician considered one of the founders within the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and 1970s.2 has an illustrated interview with noted Harlem artist G. Falcon Beazer, as well as profiles on three leading contemporary Black creators: a poet, a painter and a dancer. There is a center photographic spread introducing the Black Forum staff.
The issue also includes: Notes of a Black Revolutionary. By Ron Hill, a leader and organizer with the New York Black Panther Party and Black/Puerto Rican community, who was incarcerated for seven years. The issue has two poems by Nikki Grimes, a Harlem-born, prolific poet, writer and artist of children's books.
There are several other poems, as well as compelling artwork and photographic images, a crossword puzzle and a subscription form for Black Forum's Second Year. Issue Number 1 is slightly larger in stapled pictorial wrappers; 48 pages printed on paper that is wrinkled/creased in several areas otherwise generally in good condition with some wear, mainly to covers 8.5" x 11". Number 2 is well illustrated throughout in stapled pictorial wrappers; 48 pages; in very good condition overall with some browning to a few pages 7" x 9.5".
