Antique African American Folk Art Black Doll Toy Still Life Oil Painting 1938
This is gorgeous and charming Antique African American Black Folk Art Doll Toy Still Life Oil Painting on artist board, depicting a small African American doll as the central image, surrounded by a toy horse and spinning top in the lower right. This work is signed and dated: "Clara Fahrenkrug 1938" in the lower right. The subject matter of this piece is very uncommon, especially in the early stages of the American Jim Crow laws that were in full, terribly effect during the 1930's. I could not find much biographical information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about her or her work?

A notation on the verso reads: Clara Fahrenkrug. This painting is rendered in a soft, and well detailed manner that is representative of the American Impressionist palette and technique. Approximately 16 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches including frame. Actual visible artwork is approximately 13 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches.

Good condition for 70+ years of age, with some very light edge wear to the original period frame. This rare work would be the perfect addition to a discerning African American doll collection or Black Americana collector. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
