DETAILS: Original cabinet card photograph of an African American woman taking an oath. We believe she is an early black suffragist who was elected to office. By the 1880's elected black male representatives, though rare, were not uncommon in parts of the United States. However because of gender discrimination, elected black female officials were exceptionally rare. Measures 4.25" x 6.5" inches.
