INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY BRYANT ROLLINS. Bryant Rollins Edward Bryant Rollins Jr. , who died in 2022 at the age of 84, was a pioneering Black journalist, accomplished author, and diversity and inclusion consultant.
He was known for detailing his experiences with racism in newsrooms and beyond. Journalism: Rollins held significant editorial roles, including a reporter and political columnist for The Boston Globe and an editor for The New York Times. He also founded The Bay State Banner, a Black newspaper in Boston, and later edited The New York Amsterdam News. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize during his time at the Globe. Civil Rights: He was actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s, participating in direct action campaigns in Boston, New York, and Mississippi.
Consulting: With his wife, Shirley Stetson, he co-founded StetsonRollins Consulting, a firm that provided diversity, management, and organizational effectiveness consulting to a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies and government agencies. In addition to the poetry in "Obsidian Flight, " Rollins authored several other books. The novel Vera Pilgrim and the Ritual of the Dolphins.Of Minnie the Moocher & Me, an autobiography co-authored with the entertainer Cab Calloway. He also co-scripted the award-winning off-Broadway play RIOT! At the time of his death, he had completed a memoir titled The Slave in My Mirror.
