Offered here is a very fine oil on canvas painting of two African American children reading a large book. Mateen in the bottom right corner. The artwork measures 30 X 24 inches and it is set in a wood frame measuring about 32 X 26 inches.

Kamal Mateen is an accomplished artist and musician. His paintings have been featured in television shows "Living Single" and The Jamie Foxx Show. PROVENANCE: Central Florida Legal Services Property of Central Florida Legal Services label is affixed to bottom left corner on the back of the frame. CONDITION: The painting has a small, light scratch in the top right corner. No other paint loss, or any other damage.

The wooden frame shows wear, nicks, etc, but is in very good condition. Native of Ormond Beach, Florida.

Kamal Mateen is an accomplished painter, writer and musician. His work has been featured in the sitcom television shows "Living Single" and The Jamie Foxx Show. His art arouses many emotions in the viewer. When looking closely at any of Mateen's pieces, one becomes intrigued at the subtle and sublime images and information within the picture plane.

His art transmits a message echoing a strong past and expectations of a better future. A 5-foot by 6-foot painting, "Still Rising, " (See image 9), that hangs in the John H. Dickerson Heritage Library in Daytona Beach, Florida depicts children of various racial backgrounds seated on a large open book held aloft by a giant hand. The celestial background gives way to a prominent road leading from the children to a futuristic city at the apex of the painting. "My art is based on everyday life experiences, " Mateen wrote.

I seek to uplift the minds of humanity and inspire and motivate them to a higher plane. Another mural painting on multiple canvases by Mateen "Faces of pride: Then and now, " was done in 1999, and professionally preserved and unveled again on the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther Kings march on Washington, D. And his "I have a dream" speech, hangs in the South Ormond Recreation Center.
