Ink signed print by important artist Margaret Burroughs who was born in Louisiana and became a very important figure in Chicago and African American art. Achieved degrees from the Art Institute of Chicago and also studied for a time in Mexico. Various sources have described some of her graphic art as woodcuts, serigraphs, lithographs or linoleum cuts. I think the most accurate for this piece would be a lithograph made from an original linoleum cut.

Dated 1986 but no edition size noted. It is signed in ink, as was her usual practice when she began to concentrate on graphics which she wanted to reach a larger audience. She was very active in artistic and charitable activities in which her graphic art was available. Instrumental in the founding of the South Side Community Art Center an original WPA Project.

Later a founder of the DuSable Museum. Hard to over estimate her importance. The signature on the piece is certainly an original and not a photographic copy.

The total paper size is 17" x 22". Followers of her art will certainly be aware of a steep increase in her sale prices in the last few years.
