Mid Century Modern Maryellen Schafer Intaglio Print African American Black Girl
Mid century modern original artist proof intaglio print etching from artist Maryellen Schafer. Entitled "The Couple" this print depicts an African American woman and man. The man is at profile and the woman is surrounded by a libel abstract background.
Signed and titled at the base. Protected behind glass, matted and framed in a cream paper mat and medium wood tone beveled wood frame.Clean, crisp, bold and vibrant with no damage or wear. Shafer became an artist showcasing her intaglio etchings, watercolors, and painted objects in art shows up and down the east coast, and as recently as October of 2015, exhibited at the Jewish Community Center in West Hartford with a group of longtime art club friends.
Her work is part of the permanent collection at the New Britain Museum of American Art. She was also an art teacher at the West Hartford Art League and a Corporator at the Hartford Art School.
Maryellen founded the annual Frenchman's Creek Art Show. Plate block measures 8" x 6" and 13" x 11 1/2" with the margins. Frame measures 14 1/4" x 12 5/8".
