Rare Black African American Ambrotype Photo Slavery Era Nanny 1800s Slave

The woman is wearing a hand-tinted blouse and holding a handkerchief. Ambrotype is behind mat and cover glass in a full case, with matching, separated covers.

This is a clear glass ambrotype and the back of the glass has been painted black, as was done to bring out the image. The ambrotype is in very good antique condition. Some spots of black paint on the back of the glass are thinner than others or flaking a bit, and at some angles this is visible as lighter areas on the front but is not damage to the image and does not detract from it.
