Rare Black African American Union Civil War Soldier Lot Including Bowie Knife

Description: Original Civil War lot of items belonging to Black American Union soldier Private Marquis Peterson of Barnesville, Ohio who enlisted in Company F, 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry on May 30, 1863 at the age of 21 along with his 3 brothers. He was stationed at Folly Island, South Carolina and in action at Honey Hill, S.

And mustered out August 29, 1865 at Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. Lot includes at file folder full of information about him and his brothers and Uncle with lists and images of items of his in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History. Additionally there is a wood plaque with a piece of his wool uniform and a button from his uniform plus a brass Eagle with his name in it. The plaque measures 11" x 14". Also has his original bowie knife made by his uncle who was a blacksmith and made one for each of the 4 brothers when they all enlisted at the same time.

He asked his uncle to also make a steel sheath while the other brothers had leather ones. There is a leather patch on the back of the sheath which was added later. The knife measures 11 3/4 overall. The blade is 7 3/4 long and the handle is deer antler. History of the knife in the file folder.

Also included is his unique Odd Fellows medal, GAR watch fob made from Mother of Pearl, and other items shown. All my items are guaranteed original.
