This is visually striking and seldomly seen Vintage Black African American Modern Hard Edge Intaglio Print on thick woven paper, by renowned African American female artist and educator, Carol Ann Carter b. This artwork depicts a colorful geometric hard-edged image, with geometric bands of color, in hues of orange, yellow, and green. Titled, numbered, signed and dated at the lower edge in graphite: Indian Blanket... Approximately 28 x 35 1/4 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 22 1/4 x 29 3/4 inches.

Good condition for age, with some light creases and a couple faint scratches to the edges of the artwork please see photos. Original vintage frame has moderate scuffing and edge wear. This is a very early artwork by Carter, before she transitioned to textile work in 1984, which she is mostly well known for today. Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. Known for her mixed media bundle artwork and installation pieces, Carol Ann Carter has received the Ford Foundation Postdoctoral for Minorities Fellowship, the J. Fulbright Fellowship for creative research in Sweden, and the Langston Hughes Visiting Professorship at the University of Kansas. Though Carol Ann Carter is currently a professor at the University of Kansas, she finds plenty of time to travel and incorporate her experiences into her art. Her work has shown all over the world and her public collections include the Detroit Institute of Art, The Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the American Craft Museum in New York. Carol Ann Carter was born in Indianapolis, IN and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Herron School of Art at Indiana University in 1970. She went on to earn her MFA from the Notre Dame in 1974. Is an American artist best known for her mixed media and fiber construction works. Her works can be found in public collections such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

She is currently a Professor Emeritus of visual arts at the University of Kansas. Carol Ann Carter earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Herron School of Art. At the Indiana University in 1970.

After completing her Bachelor's she was taken on as artist-in-residence at her alma mater, Shortridge High School. The program was funded by the PTA Fine Arts Committee and the Indiana State Arts Commission and was meant to inspire artistic expression and confidence in students who were not already interested in the arts. Carter then completed her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame.

In her early years, Carter was focused on intaglio. Printmaking and then transitioned into textile work in 1984 after she traveled to Nigeria on a Lilly Endowment to study traditional men's embroidery and weaving. This trip solidified her interest in examining culture and gender through textile work. Carter's recent works are multimedia, digital and video based. National Endowment Individual Artists Award.

Kansas Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship. Is an interdisciplinary visual artist whose creative work began in painting and intaglio printmaking at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, IN.

It currently involves mixed media painting and construction, installation, digital imaging, performance, and video. A from The University of Notre Dame in 1974, and a B. She received two Kansas Art Commission/NEA Individual Master Artist Fellowships, and The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission Phoenix Award in Interdisciplinary Art. Carter was affiliated with the. Public collections include the Snite Museum, Notre Dame, IN, The Las Vegas Museum, The Santa Reparata Print Studio in Florence, Italy, and The Indianapolis Museum of Art. Carter's creative work which began in intaglio printmaking, advanced to mixed media painting and fiber construction in 1984. She is currently working in multimedia installation -performance, mixed media and digital imaging and video, Carter is also interested in collaboration across cultures and disciplines in the arts. Of her work she states: The objects and spaces I utilize, suggest the creative field in which I play my work.
